Hello friends, and welcome to the blog today.
Today is going to be a good day. My quiet and journal time is done, and I feel refreshed and ready to tackle whatever comes at me. We have already started our school work, and everyone is working independently. I have a few minutes to share a little bit of Stoic encouragement with you!
Through the years, I’ve realized just how important it is to choose your relationships wisely. Who we hang out with can really impact who we become.
Epictitus once said, “It is inevitable if you enter into relations with people on a regular basis, either for conversation, dining or simple friendship, that you will grow to be like them, unless you can get them to emulate you. Place an extinguished piece of coal next to a live one, and either it will cause the other one to die out, or the live one will make the other reignite. Since a lot is at stake, you should be careful about fraternizing with non-philosophers in these contexts; remember that if you consort with someone covered in dirt you can hardly avoid getting a little grimy yourself.”
Ancient wisdom is so interesting to me because it shows that there really isn’t anything new under the sun. Wisdom is wisdom.
The habits of our friends usually rub off on us. If we have a friend who likes to complain, guess what? We are more likely to complain.
Since poor habits can effect us in a very negative way, it is important to choose who we associate with wisely.
Thanks so much for stopping by, friends. I hope you have a wonderful day!
