April is such a fun month. The weather is heating up, and we are nearing the end of our homeschool year! While in general, homeschooling is something I really enjoy, it’s also nice to take a break at the end of the school year.
We used to homeschool year round, but lately, we’ve gotten into a rhythm of schooling along with the public school calendar.
This has worked for us, especially because I spend a lot of time gardening in the summer. One of the nice things about homeschooling is that you can totally mold it around your family’s life, as long as you follow your state’s guidelines.
This April, our school has looked like…
…less schoolwork! Little by little, we are finishing up subjects and shelving them until the fall. Several of my children have finished their handwriting work for the year, and my third grader has finished her social studies material.
…more time outdoors! We love to complete our schoolwork on the front porch this time of year.
…standardized tests! I actually just ordered standardized tests for my third and twelfth graders from Family Learning Organization, since they are required by my state every third year.
My ears have perked when my kids reflect on what they’ve liked and not liked during the year. I have a loose plan for next year, but I like to know what my children think about what they have done this year before I actually purchase anything new.
We plan to visit the zoo this month, too. We have a family pass that expires in May, so we would like to get there one last time in April.
Finally, I hope to do a few special activities with my children for Earth Day. We probably will plant some new things, watch a YouTube video, and make a craft.
It has been a really good year for us, and I hope you’ve had an enjoyable year, too! I would love to hear about how your April is going in the comment section.
Thank you so much for stopping by today!
