October’s Full Moon: The Hunter Moon

Tonight, October’s full moon makes its appearance. The Hunter Moon!

The Hunter Moon receives its name because it historically coincides with the last hunt of the year. October temperatures are usually mild enough to provide a last chance to stock up on food before winter sets in.

I love to acknowledge the cycles of nature, and to reflect on the changes they bring. By the time the next full moon rolls around, it will be pretty chilly around here. This full moon feels very fall-like, and I plan to enjoy it.

Full moons can affect both animals and people. I personally feel like they are energizing. I love to be outdoors during a full moon.

The Hunter Moon falls on Thursday this year, which coincidentally is the busy day of our week. After leaving the house for six hours for my children to participate in various orchestra classes, coming home to a relaxing evening and a full moon sounds awfully nice.

Smoky quartz is associated with the Hunter Moon, which is so beautiful. Its color reminds me of an autumn day, and I probably will pull one out from my collection of rock specimens when I return home. Smoky quartz represents grounding and protection.

While I do not believe in any magical properties inside of rocks, minerals, or the moon, I love to romanticize my life with natural things. I realize I’m fully part of the natural world, and am not here to subdue it. Living with this understanding of the earth has opened up a beautiful world of wonder for me.

I hope you have a lovely evening, and if you can, take a peek at the moon. Enjoy the light as you connect with this amazing part of nature.
