Approaching Hallows

The morning feels sweet, and full of possibilities. Splashes of autumnal color catch my eye as I look out the window, and a female cardinal chirps at our bird feeder just outside.

How lovely late October is. I especially enjoy it since the cardigan I wear year-round doesn’t seem nearly so out of place anymore.

We are approaching Hallows, which I talked about briefly on the blog a week or so ago. Technically, it falls directly between the fall equinox and winter solstice, therefore being on November 6th.

While many celebrate this season with loud parties, I prefer to curl up on the couch, or take a walk in the forest. Friends, the forest is simply glorious! There is nothing I like better than to lay in our hammock or sit on the bench tucked into our forest.

As a side note, my husband and I were discussing the difference between a forest and woods a few days ago. According to the internet, a forest must be over one acre, and have 60-100% canopy coverage. Therefore, I am now dubbing our property a forest.

Anyhow, while my children plan to dress up and go on a candy hunt on Halloween, on Hallows, I think the evening will be much quieter.

I want to light some candles, and consider what things haven’t been serving me well. What needs to “die” in my life, so to speak. I will do some journaling, and think about what comes next.

I will think about our ancestry, and possibly talk about it with my children. While I think the best is yet to come for humanity in terms of our thought processes and ways of doing things, there is much to learn about where we came from as well.

I will contemplate how the day is smack dab in the middle of the solstice and equinox. Where the earth sits in relation to the sun, at least in the northern hemisphere where we live. It’s important to taylor our rememberances to our specific location. This way, they are much more meaningful.

Once Hallows passes, I feel free to prepare to welcome the winter solstice. This is when the holiday decorations will slowly begin to emerge from my basement. I’m so very excited!

If you celebrate Hallows, I hope you have a wonderful time.

Well, the sun is a little higher in the sky and my children are beginning to emerge from their rooms. It’s time for me to rise from my spot and continue on with my day.

Before I go, I’d like to mention that I am running a “Bow of the Month” special in my Etsy shop. This hair bow is 50% off though most of November. If you’d like for me to make one for you, you can find it here.
