A Shift in Focus

,

Happy Tuesday! It is so cold today. This morning it was in the 20’s during my jog. I powered through with the help of some extra layers!

I really would love to begin sharing more on this blog. I’ve gone through seasons where I wrote nearly every day.

Lately, I haven’t had the mental energy to do so. This year has been one of the hardest years of my life. I honestly will be happy to see it go. I know there was a purpose in it all, but that doesn’t take away the feelings I experienced.

While I am doing much better now, I have been so busy studying faith topics in a different way than I ever have before. I was determined to learn more about the topic of “righteousness” beginning in January. Well, that led me down rabbit hole after rabbit hole. After studying Jewish sources and teachings for awhile, my husband encouraged me to begin looking into Biblical critical/historical sources. Wow! I have learned a lot.

I’m not sure if I have the bandwidth to share about that journey right now, but perhaps I will one day.

Anyhow, I read for a couple hours a day lately. I wake up early, and I try to carve out time in little snippets throughout the day. I also read with my older children and/or watch YouTube videos about the historical aspect of the Old and New Testament. Currently we are at the tail end of James Tabor’s series about Death and Afterlife in the Ancient Western World.

But, I miss writing on this blog more regularly.

I used to share about my faith a lot, and I have backed away from that, except in the most general sense. After doing some thinking, I decided I would like to write about the topic of stoicism from time to time in relation to this life I live as a wife, mom, and homemaker.

What is stoicism you might wonder?

The Stoics believed the aim of life, the highest good, was to live virtuously. A life of virtue was one with the potential to bring us personal happiness and fulfillment. It’s the pursuit of virtue and good character that allows us to experience eudaimonia—happiness, flourishing, the good life. (from the Daily Stoic)

I think living a virtuous life is an amazing goal to have. I hope that I can be an encouragement by sharing some of my thoughts on this.

I think writing about the topic of virtuous living without focusing particularly on Christianity (like I did in the past) will be helpful to all. If you are a Christian, you can apply these principles to your life. If you are not a Christian, you can, too.

“God has entrusted me with myself.” – Epictetus

Well, I need to go to work through some home school work with my kiddos. I also need to talk to a little person who is uncertain if lunch is to their liking, ha!

Thank you so much for stopping by today, friends. I hope you have a wonderful day!

  1. Hello Nicole
While reading historicals is good I would also encourage you to read the Bible as often as you can. That’s the real word of God and gives peace to the heart and a closer walk with Jesus. Also whenever facing uncertainties pray to the Lord! He hears and answers prayers. In the Christian walk it is so good and powerful to have a real and close relationship with Jesus!

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by, Victoriya! While I’ve studied the Bible devotionally for decades, I decided it was time to study it historically as well. 🙂 I might share more in a later post.
