Well, this post is a little late.
I’d hoped to share all of our curriculum choices at least one month ago, but friends, life has been busy.
There’s nothing wrong about that, though.
I’ve spent more one-on-one time this year with a few of my children during our homeschool time, and it has been so worth it. Yes, homeschooling is taking more time than usual for me as their teacher, but every season is totally different. And good in it’s own way.
I share about this more in my book, The Relaxed Homeschool.
Anyhow, I thought today I’d share a general overview of the curriculum we’re using. This year, I have a kindergartner, a 2nd grader, a 5th grader, a 7th grader, and a 10th grader.
This is what we’re using:
For kindergarten, I’m using The Good and the Beautiful‘s Language Arts and Math K program. My little guy loves it, and is flourishing in the reading program! We also read books out loud for literature, science, and social studies. I don’t have a book list to share with you, but I read a wide variety of things. Oh, and he also uses the Good and the Beautiful Handwriting K, along with a fun activity book about God and making good choices from Christian Light Education.
I’m using a wide variety of resources to teach my second grader. She is a reluctant reader, so we are going through Abeka‘s 1st grade and The Good and the Beautiful’s 1st grade readers each day. After she reads a story to me, we pick a sentence from each story for her to copy onto a white board. She is working through a Spectrum 2 Phonics workbook, and The Good and the Beautiful’s Handwriting 2. Oh, and she also completes activities out of an Abeka Spelling 2 workbook each day. For math, she’s using Christian Light Education Math 2. And ditto for science. For that, she’s using Christian Light Education Science 2. For social studies, we read out of a public school textbook I purchased from Amazon together. She’s also working through an activity book from Christian Light Education.
My fifth grader is working through The Good and the Beautiful’s Language Arts 5, along with their Handwriting 5 program. She’s also completing Teaching Textbooks 6 for math, and she works through a public school textbook with both her older sister and me for science and social studies. We also read a mother-daughter devotional together each day with her older sister.
My seventh grader is working through The Good and the Beautiful’s Language Arts 7, along with their Handwriting 7 program. For math, she’s using Teaching Textbooks 7. For her other subjects, she works with her younger sister like I mentioned above.
My tenth grader is enrolled in Acellus Academy, and completes all of his work online. This is his second year with Acellus, and he loves it! My plan for now is to enroll all of my high schoolers in this program. My tenth grader is my fifth child. My oldest four children didn’t complete high school online, and I’ve found Acellus to be a much easier high school solution for all of us.
There you have it!
This is our 22nd homeschool year, and I really enjoy being a homeschool mom. Some days are harder than others of course, but it is all so worth it.
If you have any questions at all, please ask away.
