Embracing Simplicity | May 2026

Welcome to the blog today, friends. It’s mid-May, which is a great time to simplify our lives before the busy summer hits.

May seems to arrive softly at first. After the heaviness of winter and then the hurried energy that often fills early spring, this month offers something gentler, in a way. l love the longer days, blooming gardens, warm breezes through open windows, and reminders from nature that growth doesn’t have to be rushed.

For many women, life can feel overwhelmingly full. I know it does for me! Calendars become crowded, responsibilities pile up, and the pressure to do more, achieve more, and hold everything together can quietly drain the soul. In a world that constantly pushes for productivity and noise, May can invite us toward something different if we let it: simplicity.

Simplicity isn’t about having a perfect home, an empty schedule, or a completely stress-free life. It’s about returning to what truly matters. It’s the intentional choice to slow down enough to notice beauty, peace, and presence in everyday moments.

Nature models this beautifully during May. Let’s take a moment to think about it. Flowers bloom without striving. Trees stretch toward the sun at their own pace. Birds sing in the early morning without worrying whether they are doing enough. The earth itself reminds us that there’s wisdom in living seasonally and gently.

Embracing simplicity during May may begin with small choices. It could mean opening the windows instead of rushing through the day with screens and noise constantly filling the background. It could mean taking slow evening walks, cooking simple nourishing meals, or spending time outside with a cup of tea or coffee while listening to birdsong. Often, the smallest moments become the most restorative. And friends, we are meant to have lives rooted in restoration!

Many women carry invisible emotional labor every day like caring for children, supporting loved ones, managing households, working, planning, organizing, and emotionally holding space for others. Over time, this constant output can create inner exhaustion. Simplicity becomes a form of healing when we allow ourselves to release unnecessary pressure and reconnect with our own needs.

May is a beautiful month to gently ask yourself:

  • What’s unnecessarily complicating my life right now?
  • Where am I overcommitted?
  • What brings me genuine peace?
  • What can I let go of in this season?
  • What rhythms feel nourishing instead of draining?

And after asking yourself these questions, decide to take a few small steps to do something about it.

Sometimes simplicity means decluttering physical spaces. Other times it means decluttering mental and emotional noise. It may look like spending less time comparing yourself to others online. It may mean saying no without guilt. It may mean allowing unfinished tasks to wait while you rest or connect with the people you love.

There’s also a spiritual dimension to simplicity. When life becomes quieter, we are often better able to hear our inner wisdom, intuition, and deeper needs. Constant busyness can disconnect us from ourselves. Simplicity creates space for reflection, prayer, creativity, gratitude, and healing.

One of the gifts of May is that it encourages presence. Remember that this month is fleeting. Blossoms fade quickly. Sunsets linger a little longer. Gardens change week by week. Simplicity helps us become awake to these sacred ordinary moments instead of rushing past them.

I promise:

You do not have to earn rest by becoming exhausted first.
You do not have to prove your worth through constant productivity.
You do not have to carry every responsibility perfectly.

There really is strength in choosing a slower, softer way of living.

This May, perhaps simplicity can become less about doing life perfectly and more about living life intentionally. Think about what nourishes your soul. Maybe light a candle in the evening. Read books that nourish your spirit. Spend time in nature. Let your home feel lived in instead of flawless. Create small rituals of peace throughout your days.

Most importantly, allow yourself to breathe and schedule time for rest and restoration.

The month of May reminds us that beauty often grows quietly. A simple life isn’t an empty life. It’s a life spacious enough to hold what matters most to you.
