One of the books I’ve read lately is called “Faith: Trusting Your Own Deepest Experience” by Sharon Salzberg. I really enjoyed it. It was written from a Buddhist perspective, but I could relate to so much of it.
I’ve copied parts of this book into my journal, and I thought I would share today’s entry with you today.
“When I see only suffering and unfulfilled possibility, I need to remind myself of the mystery of life’s unfolding – the many linkages that are carrying my efforts through currents of connection to results I may never directly witness.
In order to know the truth of interconnectedness we need to look at the world with what theologian Howard Thurman calls “quiet eyes.” However we do it, softly receiving reality with quiet eyes rather than pinpointing objects and events as separate and distinct opens up our view instead of closing it with predetermined boundaries.”
-Sharon Salzberg
Life really is interconnected. Sometimes we don’t see a purpose in our pain, but it is there. So many times, I’ve realized why a situation was painful after the fact. There was a reason for it.
Looking at the world with “quiet eyes” can reveal many mysteries, I think. We can see how events and objects mesh together which explains a lot.
Sometimes we will never witness the connection. That’s alright, too. We can rest in the knowledge that the connection is there, and things worked out for the best.
I’m determined to cultivate peace in my life this year, and this book was definitely a great encouragement to me. It is one I will turn back to time and time again.
If you decide to read it, I hope it encourages you, too!
Thanks for stopping by, friends. I hope you have a wonderful day!
