No. 15: Notes from Home | Changes in May

This week has been so wet. Not only has it been wet, but severe storms have rolled through.

On Thursday night, we were up pretty late as we were notified of tornado warnings in our area. We kept a close eye on the cells, which were just south of us.

Then around 6 am, we were notified of another warning. This cell was really close. So we hurriedly woke up our children and clamored to the basement. My seven year old is not fond of storms, so I had to do a lot of comforting!

Thankfully, all was well and the only problem we had were some items blown around. We continued to get a lot of rain, and some of our local rivers reached flood stage. But I think everyone was safe in our community, which is amazing.

Earlier in the week, we did all of the dance things. My girls had their end of the year recital, and parents were invited to watch a final dance class. While it was a lot of driving, it was so much fun for both me and my daughters.

Now that our extracurricular activities are over, it is time to relax. This week has been much slower than normal, and I’m not complaining. I’ve actually found the time to post to my YouTube channel. It’s been awhile!

Today I plan to finish planting most of my gardens. I’m late this year. My tomato and pepper starts are definitely ready!

To be honest, I can tell my garden is shifting this year. My focus is more on creating a natural and native habitat, and less on sustaining a homestead. After a lot of thinking, I realized that a lot of my homesteading efforts were based on fear of the future. That’s no way to live. So while I do have a small annual vegetable garden, I’m concentrating on tending perennial herbs, vegetables, berries, and natives this year. My heart is so happy.

I hope you have an amazing weekend, friends. And if you are a mom, Happy Mother’s Day!
