Ah, October. As my favorite month of the year, I relish in each day of it.
The air has turned crisp, and fall activities are in full force. I love to stay cozy in our home, as well as spend time in our yard. I like to sit quietly whenever I can, and listen to the leaves rustling in the wind and the sound of the birds. Lately, a Barred Owl (or two) have taken residence in our woods. I listen to their calls in the very early morning, and try to imagine what they may be doing.
I love to add little rituals to my life. Now, I know that the word “ritual” is normally tied to religious observance. But that’s not exactly what I mean. To me, ritual is commemorative. Everything and every moment is sacred in my opinion, so I like to do little things to commemorate them. I try to do most things mindfully, which gives more meaning to the “rituals” I do.
This October, I put together a bag of all my favorite things. In it, I have a book that I add special items to, whether it be a love note from my husband or cut outs from a magazine I read. I don’t think one is ever too old to do such things. Do what you enjoy, I say.

Another October ritual I’ve begun is to wear a Pink Opal beaded bracelet each day. Opal is one of October’s stones, and I envision myself more connected to this time of the year while I’m wearing it. Now, will I find a different bracelet to wear each month of the year? Who knows, but for now I’m thoroughly enjoying my opal bracelet.
As an aromatherapist, I’m thinking about what oils I can use to ground me to this time of year. I’m considering orange and nutmeg. Orange is wonderful at boosting moods, and is also immune strengthening. Nutmeg is also a mood booster, and can support the digestive and reproductive systems. I’d like to create a fall blend to use especially during this time of year.
There is a shelf in our dining room that I’ve dedicated to nature finds. If something stands out to me when I’m outside, I bring it inside to the shelf. I’ve brought in leaves, acorns, and flowers. Every so often, I light a candle on this shelf, too. I’ve started to do so during the full moon, and any other time that suits my fancy.
Cheers to October! Cheers to Thursday! Cheers to Fall!
Anytime will do.
Make your life romantic, friends. Every moment is meaningful, and we can celebrate it all.
