So Much Garden Work + Encouragement for You

My raised bed garden is officially planted. Hallelujah!

Friends, I’ve probably spent close to twenty hours outside the past two weeks working in my yard. Last year I really let the garden go because I was dealing with some personal things. My heart literally wasn’t there. (Which is totally okay, by the way. Sometimes the best thing for us is rest.)

That time off restored me, which was awesome. But my garden? It wasn’t thrilled.

But this year I’m back, and I’ve got a lot of work to do. I’ve removed so many weeds, and I know this will be an ongoing battle. My hope is that if I can really stay on top of it until the seeds I plant grow bigger, then they will help choke out the weeds.

As far as seeds go, I concentrated on planting flowers this year. I mostly planted sunflowers, zinnias, and cosmos. Baby zinnias are starting to sprout and I’m just so excited about how my garden will hopefully look within a month or two. So many birds, bees, and butterflies enjoy seed heads and nectar too!

I also have established patches of strawberries and many other herbs. Those guys are already looking great!

This year we tilled up my in-ground garden and are letting it return to grass. The weed pressure there was insane, and we really need to do a complete do-over if we plan to use that space again. I’m finding so many fun things sprouting in that space, though! I’ve transplanted tomatoes, cucumbers, and sunflowers into raised beds, and zinnias into containers on our deck. It’s like a treasure hunt when I go outside each morning since we haven’t mowed it for the first time yet.

For Mother’s Day, the plan is to landscape the area close to our deck since it’s been neglected. Plants are already in place, but we need to add a better weed barrier and edging. I also hope to add a couple of containers full of zinnias to this area. So exciting!

If you’ve been working in your yard, I hope it’s going wonderfully.

I’ve not only been working, but have been just enjoying springtime too. Instead of jogging and walking in our forest, I’ve begun to walk along the edge of the wood line to help prevent tick bites.

It’s my prayer and exercise time all rolled into one. Maybe one day we’ll widen the trail in our woods, but for now, this works out nicely.

My heart is content, and life is good.

Before I leave I’d like to send a little garden-inspired encouragement your way:

“The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.”

Isaiah 58:11 NLT

God is with us wherever we go, and will guide us too. Whenever I feel parched, I try to remember that the Spirit of God is inside of us, giving us water when we’re dry and restoring our strength. We are like well-watered gardens when we trust in the goodness of God.

Let’s remember that when we water our actual gardens.

Thanks for stopping by today, friends. I hope you’re feeling blessed today!
