I’m so happy it’s May!
The world has come alive, and full of sweetness. When I spend time in my garden, I’m reminded of how quickly the earth has turned from dormant to fertile.
Mother’s Day is coming up soon, which really couldn’t happen at a better time. Celebrating the women in our lives who’ve raised babies should be done among freshly bloomed flowers, I think.
I love to live seasonally, and follow the rhythms of nature as I go about my days. During spring, I try to evaluate the growth in my life as the season takes hold. May 1st is the mid-point of spring, sometimes celebrated as Beltane. So by now, I should have a handle on the trajectory of my life over the past six weeks.
I can tell my body is adjusting to the day light hours, and I’ve spent a lot more time outside. Working in my garden with my children has been wonderful. Just today, I cleared out a garden bed that my sixteen-year-old son used to take care of for my six-year-old son. Gosh, time really does fly.
I soaked up his questions as I tilled the soil and pulled weeds that had taken hold last season. I watched his excitement as he walked with me to look through my collection of seeds, and his eyes lit up as he picked the perfect ones.
In case you’re interested, he planted cucumbers, tomatoes, sunflowers, and snapdragons. Oh, how I hope they grow!
And he’s growing too, alright. Like a weed, I tell you. He just finished kindergarten, which is totally bittersweet. He’s my youngest child, and I can’t believe that I likely will never teach this precious grade again.
But at the same time, I love watching him grow up. I love all of the ages and stages of my children…even the adult stage. It’s amazing to watch the babies I held close spread their wings and take on the world.
I love the evolution of life, really. It’s always changing.
So while small changes are happening in my own life this spring, it’s all part of a bigger picture. As the seasons turn I’m growing and learning more, just like my children.
We all are.
I hope you have a wonderful May, friends. Notice where you’re growing, and celebrate it! I just know God has great things in store for you!
Before I go, I’d love to share a few reflection questions with you to think about this spring. This and more can be found in my Christian Woman Springtime Guide. If you’d like, jot down your answers in a journal or in the comment section below, and be sure to repeat the affirmation. I hope you enjoy it!
Growth Takes Time Reflection
Just like flowers returning after a long winter’s rest, spiritual growth happens gradually. This is a good thing, because slow growth often builds a strong foundation. The more time we spend with God, the deeper our faith will grow.
Answer the following questions:
- Where have I seen growth in my faith recently?
- What small steps can I take to deepen my relationship with God?
Repeat this Affirmation:
“God is faithfully growing me, one season at a time.”
