No. 19 Notes From Home | Early May Blessings

Oh, it’s been a crazy couple of days. My kiddos picked up some sort of bug, and one or two at a time have been sick for about a week now.

But thankfully, we’re getting through it. My sweet husband picked up a few favorite food items from the store for the sick ones like Reese’s cereal, chocolate ice cream, and rice crispy treats. I know sugar isn’t the best to eat while you’re sick, but when you have a very picky eater on your hands sometimes you just go with it!

So movies and Little House on the Prairie have been on repeat, and it’s been a slow few days. The kids watched The Sound of Music yesterday which was fun since I hadn’t seen it in awhile! I feel blessed that I’m able to be home while they aren’t feeling the greatest and that I get to be their mama. I think everyone is on the mend now, which is wonderful.

Those who’ve been feeling well have enjoyed the outdoors lately, too. Yesterday my husband, Rusty, set up this new fence for our bunnies to use during their supervised play time. It was so easy to put together and they seem to really like it!

My garden is pretty much set for the time being, except for the weeds that are making their appearance. I let my garden go last season unfortunately, and am paying for it now! But honestly, it’s all good. I’ve planted cosmos, zinnias, and sunflowers, so as they get a little bigger I’ll just clear out the weeds and plant more of what I’d like to grow.

Today my six-year-old joined me for my morning run. Well, he kind of joined me. He pointed out all kinds of things in our yard, and then I dutifully watched how high he could swing and jump on our trampoline. He told me I’m the “best mom ever” with gusto while picking the perfect clover for me. I hope to remember how sweet these fleeting days are for the rest of my life.

My oldest son is gearing up for a summer of playing the banjo with Williamson Branch, and I can’t wait to hear about all of his adventures. Last weekend they played in Florida and south Georgia, and this weekend they’ll be in Mississippi. I’ll definitely miss him on Mother’s Day, but am so happy he’s getting to have fun doing what he enjoys.

Speaking of Mother’s Day, I have a fun new printable in my shop. If you’d like to check it out, click here.

There’s a certain magic or holiness that fills everyday moments, I think. I love to see how God’s at work in the little things.

A sickness that has ultimately strengthened immune systems and encouraged us all to slow down and spend time together.

A new fence that both us and our animals can enjoy.

A garden that takes work, care and love to thrive. (A reminder of how raising a family requires all of these things too, I think.)

Sweet six-year-old musings that touch a mama’s heart.

Let’s remember that every day is a gift. There is so much joy to be found in simple things! And really, hope in God brings endless joy.
